# Get started

Nimbus builds documentation sites on Astro. It ships the invisible plumbing as an npm package and writes the visible parts — layouts, components, styles, content — into your repo as real files you own from day one.

## What makes it different

- **You own all your code.** The scaffolder writes layouts, components, and styles once and steps back. No upstream theme to fork around, no API to wait on. Edit any file.
- **Humans and agents are first-class.** Every discoverable page ships a Markdown version, `/llms.txt` indexes the site, and JSON-LD lands in every head — so the agent web can read your docs as well as a browser can.
- **Build with agents.** `nimbus-docs add` installs from a registry in two modes: components copy as files, features hand off a recipe a coding agent reads and applies.

## Quickstart

```sh
npx @cloudflare/create-nimbus-docs@latest
```

Pick a directory name when prompted, choose a template, output mode, and target, then:

```sh
cd my-docs
pnpm install
pnpm dev
```

Open the URL it prints and edit anything under `src/` — the dev server reloads.

## Where to go next

- **Install** — Scaffold a site and learn what lands in your repo — see [Installation](/installation).
- **Project structure** — The files you own, the package boundary, and how the tree becomes the site — see [Project structure](/project-structure).
- **Browse components** — Every UI component, every variant, with copy-paste examples — at [/components](/components).
- **Add from the registry** — `nimbus-docs add <slug>` copies a component into your repo — see [Adding components](/adding-components).
